The HandsOn™ System

Hands-On™ is a process management tool that provides a structured approach to managing hand and surface hygiene.  Adhering to a structured process is an essential step towards achieving sustainable behavior change consistent with reducing the risk for hospital acquired infections (HAI).

The 5 Steps

  1. Assessing Risk: Learn how to identify individuals and surfaces at risk for cross contamination.
  2. Setting Safe Level: Discover how to establish visual hygiene standards at individual and team level.
  3. Optimize: If hygiene isn't easy, isn't convenient and isn't friendly, it isn't done. Insure Conditions for Success are in place.
  4. Training & Motivating shifts the paradigm.  Discover how to motivate behavior change at individual & team level.
  5. Monitoring.  What gets measured gets done. Discover performance tracking tools that trump observation techniques.

The Doctor Knows game

tests hand hygiene knowledge

The Dr. Knows video game was designed to be part of the 90 Day Challenge program.  It is a fun way to refresh caregiver knowledge on when to practice hand hygiene and on what intervention is most appropriate.  The game follows a Doctor doing rounds at a hospital and encountering numerous situations where hand hygiene is indicated.

There are 2 games to try.  An easy version that prompts the player to select the appropriate action and a more difficult game that does not prompt for a response.  Good luck and have fun.
